Description:

Rüppell's Vulture or Rüppell's Griffon Vulture is a large vulture that occurs throughout the Sahel region of central Africa. The current population of 30,000 is decreasing due to loss of habitat and other factors. Can fly at great heights, more than 36,000 feet, higher than any other bird on earth. Tall bird, 33 to 38 inches. Wingspan, 96 inches.

Habitat:

This Ruppell's vulture lives in captivity at the National Zoo in Washington, DC.
