Scaly-breasted Lorikeet

Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus

Description:

Also known as Scalies. Small parrot mostly green in colour with scallops of bright yellow on chest and belly. Bright red curved beak, red eyes, red patch on shoulders and red patch visible on wings in flight, male and female similar, seed, fruit, nectar and pollen feeder, short tail with tinge of blue, nomadic often seen in small groups and will join flocks of other parrots.

Habitat:

Found throughout eastern Australia following flowering plants to feed on nectar. This one in bottlebrush tree heavy in flower adjacent to bushland.

Thanks DilanC. Flowering finished abruptly this Spring, so was lucky to get the chance to photograph many of the regular birds.
