Crane Fly (female)

Tipula sp.

Description:

The adult crane fly, resembling an oversized mosquito, has a slender body and stilt-like legs that are deciduous, easily coming off the body. The wingspan is generally about 1.0 to 6.5 cm. The antennae have up to 39 segments. It is also characterized by a V-shaped suture on the back of the thorax and by its wing venation. The rostrum is long; in some species it is as long as the head and thorax together. - Wiki

Habitat:

The location is not exact...I've forgotten the precise place I took this pic.

Notes:

Thank you DanielePralong for pointing me in the right direction for identification! In terms of the actual species...any further help would be appreciated :)

Hi armadeus.4! Yes, this is a crane fly. They are in the family Tipulidae (characteristics include wing venation and a v-shaped suture on the thorax)

The pointy abdomen indeed indicates it's a female. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with species in Japan.

Can someone please tell me if this is a Crane Fly (perhaps a female?) and what the correct scientific name is? I haven't a clue...
