Deinopis subrufa
Large lanky spider ID as Common Net-Casting Spider, this one also male due to large palps folded at front. Very long thin legs carrying a thin long body with similar markings to wolf spiders, tan and brown with cream stripes, not aggressive, waiting for mosquitoes to feed on nearby.
Garden environment near woodland, moved to fly screen where mosquitoes gathered.
Thanks martinl and NathBig! Apart from the jumping spiders this would be one of the best looking spiders I've come across.
I have never seen a nest casting spider so large though - this one measured about 4 to 5cm (body only), with legs about double that.
Thank you all for help with exact ID. I will adjust details. I really thought it was a great looking spider and noticed the large pedipalps.
What a great find. They are supposed to be common but I see them very rarely. Here is my series including their web. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/114...
Looks like a type of Net-casting spider. Don't know enough about them for a specific species, maybe Deinopis subrufa or Avella angulata?
Thanks Luis. It was a very attractive spider not at all confronting as some are.
