Cossid exuvia (Goat Moth)

Family: Cossidae

Description:

This is an exoskeleton of a Goat or Cossid moth larva, after its' last moult. It was protruding out of the hole it had bored to emerge as a moth. The exuvia was about 65 mm long and must have been about 13 mm wide judging by the width of the hole.

Habitat:

Spotted in a log - Black Wattle

Notes:

Quite a few Cossid moths have been spotted in this area, this season.
