I think that is right Malcolm! It could definitely just be different angles which make the wing shape look different.

Thanks J, I have looked at images of Scopula moths from Europe but so far nothing matches exactly, one was very close except the wing outline was much more angular, the other had the dark spots located differently relative to the lines on the wings - http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo2...
