Atractomorpha australis
A narrow streamlined grasshopper about 30 mm long with short flattened antennae. The grass hopper was all green with tinges of pink on the antennae, abdomen and hind legs.
Spotted on grass in a nature reserve ( Glenfern Valley Bushland).
A very well camouflaged insect. It did not fly/hop very far before landing. Not known to be a strong flier but difficult to see amongst grass. Adults live on vegetable matter and are said to be very destructive to crops. These are related at a higher level to grasshoppers (Superfamily Acridoidea) but have been placed in Family: Pyrgomorphidae.
