Ghost crab

Ocypode quadrata

Description:

Adults are greyish or straw-colored, about 5 cm wide at maturity; they need to return to water periodically in order to moisten their gills. Young crabs are colored to blend in with their sand habitats as can be seen in the last photos. They are active in the daytime but more so at night and will feed on emerging sea turtles.
