Noctuid Moth

Zale lunata

Description:

Green and brown noctuid moth that shows cryptic coloration for camouflage on moss covered trunks of trees.

Habitat:

Came to parking lights of a supermarket close to pine forests around San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

This species seems to have enormous color and pattern variation. See:http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=8689. Has it been reported for southern Mexico?

Thank you bayucca for your identification. This species seems to have a great deal of color and pattern variation (http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.ed...). I don't see a report for southern Mexico, although it is reported from all over the southern US and Cuba.

I suggest that you upload some of your pictures again, there are too small for getting a proper ID. Thanks!

I am pretty sure about Zale and most probably Zale lunata, which is VERY variable:
