Description:

This is one of the largest of all butterflies. It measures nearly 5" in diameter. The dorsal view has some blue like a morpho but not as distinct. The feed on heliconia and banana plants

Geographical range would indeed not mean much in this case, but the pale area would mean more.

I think it is Menus. Memnon is found from Mexico to Nicaragua, which is however and nevertheless quite close to Costa Rica. But Memnon seems in my eyes has a more pronounced pale area on the forewing compared to yours and Menus. What do you think?
