Description:

An adorable juvenile plains garter found right outside of our field house in western Iowa

Habitat:

Often inhabit meadows, prairies, and other grasslands near sources of water, such as ponds, streams, marshes, and sloughs. However, it appears this snake can and will occupy almost any type of habitat, from pristine to severely urbanized. Native to most of the Central United States stretching as far north as Canada and as far south as Texas
