A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Upupa epops
Orange head and body with black and white striped wings. There is a crest on the head with black spots. This was the bird I wanted to see the most, and this was the only one we saw. He was far away so the pictures are blurry, but I was just happy to see it :)
Flew into thick trees at the edge of a small field in a mostly grassland area.

My favorite bird Ashley! I was overwhelmed the first time I saw one! So glad you had a good time and we are all waiting to enjoy your spottings. :)
And I hope you get better pictures than I managed!
It was great, Jemma! Wildlife is so much more diverse it seems. I really love everything over there, but that could just be because it's all new things. And the land is so beautiful. At least here in Texas it's mostly agriculture, and everything is overgrazed and just dead looking. They really know how to manage lands over there to have healthy ecosystems, and I think that really shows with their diversity! Either way, definitely will be going back to find more animals I've missed the first two times and get better pictures of everything.
Ashley, what was your experience in Africa.?In terms of it's beauty, wild life........
Really jealous of the spotting. Hoopoe is on my must see list. Hopefully I get them this summer in Europe!
