Funnel Web Spider

These build a web which is shaped like a funnel and they wait for their prey. I found this beautiful creature in between a pineapple farm.

A lot of wolf spiders are diurnal (active during the day), making good use of their great eyesight. I'm pretty sure this is a wolf spider because of the eyes and build, but I'm not sure about Hippasa. There may be other wolf spiders that make funnel webs in India that I don't know about.

thank you kyrontf, hmm after reading that article even i think it might wolf spiders, but these were hunting during the day itself. Still not sure, please confirm bugguide pro :)

Very nice shot! The eyes make me think this is a wolf spider. Maybe genus Hippasa, which is known to make funnel webs. I don't know much about Indian spiders, so there may be other choices too. Here's a nice post about Hippasa: http://spiderindia.blogspot.in/2006/10/g...
