Green iguana

Iguana iguana

Description:

This huge male green iguana claimed ownership of the west side of my backyard, strutting all around and waving his dewlap to warn me and all other competitors away. A similarly large male was claiming the east side of the backyard at the same time. This one has black markings around his eyes and on his face which is a little different from the typical ones.

Habitat:

Along an inland fresh water canal in western Boca Raton, FL

Notes:

There has been an explosion in the green iguana population in this area this summer. It is not unusual to see over a dozen of all sizes at the same time. They are in trees (not the big iguanas like this), on house roofs and swimming in the canal. I have a youTube video of this guy here: https://youtu.be/yHQa0DJCLX8
