Ants Tending Scale

Description:

These are stout little ants with 2 gold-haired bands on the abdomen. In this tree they were tending some scale insects on the bark. These ants are very common throughout the forest, usually in trees and bushes but sometimes also on the ground. They often sleep at night in little groups in the trees.

Habitat:

Forest around the Mayan Ruins of Hormiguero, Calakmul Biosphera Reserve.
