Wonderful Underwing

Catocala mira

Description:

about 1.5"

Habitat:

urban

Notes:

I spotted this moth while working. I was just about to step down in a flower bed and looked down to see where I was stepping and I'm glad I did. I saw this moth resting on the soil. It was early and cold and it wasn't moving much. I picked it up and put it on the dashboard of a work truck until I could find something to put it in. It began to warm up and walk around a lot. For a second I lost it, it flew out of the truck, even though it was hardly flying. Thankfully a coworker spotted it on the road and told me. I grabbed it again and brought it back home. It was near the end of its life and died later that day.
