Description:

This large lizard is about 2 feet long with a glossy covered in black and gold stripes hence the name tegu. It looks like a smaller version of a monitor lizard with powerful limbs and a thick tail.

Habitat:

These large lizards live in tropical forests of Northern and central South America aswell as the forests of Trinidad and Tobago. They feed on insects, birds, smaller reptiles and sometimes fruit if its readily available.
