Ypthima stellera stellera
Underside of the wing is grayish-brown, with a large ocellus on each of the forewing. On the underside of each hindwing, there are six smaller rings that look like eyespots, but the pair of rings at the tornus is counted as one only, hence its common name of five-ring.
Spotted in an open space where weeds are growing, in Biñan Laguna, Philippines.
Dec1, 2012 update: I had to change the ID from Y. baldus (Common Five-ring) to Ypthima stellera stellera since the latter is more prevalent in Luzon and the country, while Y. baldus mostly ocurs in Palawan. Related spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/161....
