Mosaic puffball

Handkea utriformis

Description:

Spheric white fungus, somewhat flat on the top, over 10cm in diameter, no stem visible, white spongious but firm flesh. There is a pattern, in form of polygonal patches, across the top and sides.

Habitat:

Slopes of hill in Jura mountains; alpine pastures.

Notes:

Apparently edible while the flesh is white like in photos; edible but not particularly appreciated.
