Ugly milk cap

Lactarius turpis

Description:

Springtime mushrooms with dull grey-brown puckering surface slightly slimy, some radial lines; stipe straight, narrow, slightly fibrulose, no frills or stains; gills dense, fine, pale, maybe some spore stains; growing in a cluster of at lest 3; largest ones were 100mm across the cap.

Habitat:

Local suburban reserve in childs playground in woodchip mulch.

Notes:

Fairly open getting full morning sun. Looks a bit dangerous. An introduced species in Australia and New Zealand. The only problem I can see with this ID is a lack of yellow tint that most other examples seem to show. ?
