@gatorfellows- that's why it was a rare spotting where I was at. But I was with others and we didn't have time to look.
Great article!! When I lived in Placentia Calif we had ruddy ground doves in the mobile home park, but (as far as I know) no where else in the area. When I moved to Oregon 20 years ago we had no mourning doves. They arrived less than a decade ago(and now rule the world). The Asian collared doves have not found my place, although I've seen them less than 2 miles away, and my mom's entire neighborhood was cursing them - although a friendly Juv Cooper's hawk took about half the population recently before moving on.
You may have to visit Texas to get a better chance of spotting an Inca Dove. :)
Thanks gatorfellows. They were all Borrego Springs more so then the Mourning Doves. There was reports of an Inca Dove but I didn't have time to find it.
I cannot answer your question about when, but this Audubon article has some interesting facts about the expansion of dove species and an interactive map showing increases; http://web4.audubon.org/bird/cbc/WWL-Dov...
How recently did they hit So cal?
lovely :)
