Laetiporus portentosus
This unattractive white mass is a rotting fungus. Was once a smooth hoof-shaped bracket fungus with a pale fertile under surface and a silken soft beige upper surface. This fungus was about 210 mm wide and appeared like slightly firm but sodden white bread with numerous holes. What is seen as a flat white surface is actually the under surface of the fungus. The fungus was eaten by insects and was also covered with algae.

A fresh one looks like this

These cause white-heart rot in host trees and sometimes the heavy fruiting bodies drop off the tree. When dry the hole-ridden white mass becomes light like polystyrene.
