Northern Water Snake

Description:

Northern Water Snake chilling out in a flooded area of Maxwell AFB. At first we thought this was a Copperhead, which prevented me from getting close enough to take a better picture. But upon further inquiry, it seems to be a harmless water snake (which would explain the whole swimming thing I guess).

No problem! The water snakes can be some of the most difficult snakes in the southeast US to ID

You are correct about this not being a copperhead, but you are not in range for banded water snake :) Here's a link for them: http://srelherp.uga.edu/snakes/nerfas.ht...
