Description:

Black to dark brown Erebid caterpillar with long cinnamon-colored tufts of setae. Yellow banding is present along sides.

Habitat:

On a porch chair near my front yard (open field). Surrounded by mixed hardwoods/loblolly pines.

@ForestDragon I got it confused with a later (darker) instar Fall Webworm larva! Thank you for the correction!

Fall Webworms tend to be more white or gray with white hairs. See here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/453
