Ring-necked Duck

Aythya collaris

Description:

Medium duck like water bird with black and white feathers. Predominant black/green head area; white mid body feather and black/brown tail area. L:ight blue beak/bill, several with banding on the beak of light and dark grey and white.

Habitat:

Manmade fresh water pond. Actually at the Northeast corner of Jog and LeChalet in West Boynton Beach, Fl.

Notes:

Due to the banding on the beak I am uncertain as to the actual species. Possibly a cross of some type.

@AshleyT I spotted a Ring Necked Duck in 1/2013. It seemed to be me to be overall brownish color. These were more black/white and grey.

I wouldn't doubt it, I see Scaup and Ring-necked together all the time. All neat ducks :)

Many more of these here. Seems there were banded and unbanded of a similar duck. I would guess that they were a combo of Ringed and lesser in the flock

This is what I was talking about when I commented back a little bit ago on your other spotting :) So Ring-necks are related to Scaup and look very similar, but they have the more patterned bills :)
