Royal Tern

Thalasseus maximus

Description:

Tern like birds, likely male and female, white and black feather with an overall white/grey appearance with a black topknot of fethers on the head of the male and a smaller topknot on the female. Orage pointed beak with dark legs.

Habitat:

Manmade freshwater pond in a suburban development adjacent to a golf course and residential housing area. West of Boynton Beach Florida.

Ahh that's right, it was in Texas. It's the yellow fuzzy one haha. I was in an area with tons of thorny things and was already scratched up enough, didn't want to make myself bleed anymore than need be! I also have a bad habit of finding nettle, that's not much fun. Thanks for the help!

I saw the Texas unidentified plant (didn't see a south african one) and passed it on to a Texas Landscape Architect friend, possibly he may identify. Too bad you didn't touch, smell or taste it. Helps to ID. Maybe not so much on the tasting.

That's great! I only have one unidentified plant spotting, but it's from South Africa. If I find more I need help with I may try for your help :)

I was a TA at Ohio State in plant identification for a number of years and just have a knack for learning plants and remembering them
