Notes:

FOOD: There is little information about diet; Probably feeds on seeds, fruits and arthropods, depending on the season and availability (Rising & Jaramillo, 2011, rev 2013). REPRODUCTION: Starts in September, taking 2 and up to 3 pups in the year. The nest places it in any shrub, small tree or scrubland, to 1 or 2 mts. Of height, although sometimes it does it in the ground hidden between the grass. To make it use grass or any soft plant material. The clutch usually consists of 3 eggs (sometimes 4 and rarely 5) of pale green color with spots, pints or dark brown or brown coffee rings; Size of 22 x 16 mms. App. OBSERVATIONS: Of the style of the Gorrion (Passer domesticus) although somewhat smaller and of structure lighter, it is distinguished mainly by the great rufescente or reddish stain in the neck. It lives in all the fields, gardens and gardens from Atacama to the Guaitecas islands (north of the region of Aysen), where it rejoices with its characteristic song although not very melodious, since it is composed of only four notes that are repeated. Although in the countryside it is still numerous, in the city it has had to yield ground to the Gorrion, European bird brought to Chile for the first time in 1904, and that spread with extraordinary rapidity, first by all the central zone and at the moment by all Chile . DISTRIBUTION: ssp. Chilensis: Chile (Atacama to Guaitecas Islands) and S Andes of Argentina
