Cribellate Orb Weaver

Uloborus glomosus

Description:

No common name. Tiny orbweaver spider. Mottled light browns with some darker markings. Pair of humps on the highest point of the dorsal abdomen. Webs spun nearly parallel to the ground with a white "line" down the middle of the web (for camouflage?). Females of this species have brushes of hair on the front tibiae. General info on Family Uloboridae: http://bugguide.net/node/view/1956

Habitat:

Suburban garden.

Notes:

These spiders have no venom! Two individuals in the same area. I have been watching these tiny spiders for most of the late summer and hadn't been able to identify them. I have images of them from a month before these were taken. They were about half the size that they are in these pictures.
