Description:

Oblong cocoon with black and white setae woven into it. The setae, which are urticating, come from the caterpillar stage.

Habitat:

Attached to a log in a mixed forest.

Thanks maplemoth. I was lucky to find several pupae this past fall...and so many caterpillars too. It must have been a good year for them, so hopefully that will mean lots of butterflies and moths come spring and summer next year!
