Melipotis fasciolaris
An underwing moth of the Family Noctuidae (Catocalinae). The underwings when flashed, were black and white. About 2 cm long. This is the male of the species, which is brighter and more striking.
Attracted to the lights of the parking lot of a shopping mall on the outskirts of the city, 2,200 meters.
The first and last 3 pictures were taken on 11Jan2013 in the same place.
Thank you bayucca, I agree with you on the identification. It seems not to have been reported for Chiapas yet. The very last specimen on the Moth Photographers Group reference is identical, even to the bright white line on the thorax. I looked endlessly through pictures of underwing moths and never found it! Thank you.
Noctuidae, Catocalinae, Melipotis fasciolaris, male, more beautiful as the female, as usual ;-)...

Please, verify yourself! There are some other Melipotis in Mexico. Personally I don't think it is this common one:

Achaea janata is not found in Mexico. But I think it is also a Noctuidae, Catocalinae.
