Spectacular rustgill

Gymnopilus junonius

Description:

The cap ranges from 7 to 20 cm across, is convex, and is bright orange, orange/brown, or reddish brown with a dry scaly surface. The stem is 25 to 265 mm long, 8 to 9 mm thick, and often narrows near the base. The frail ring is dusted with rusty orange spores, the flesh is yellow and the gill attachment to the stem is adnate to sub-decurrent. It has a bitter taste, stains red with KOH and turns green when cooked in a pan. The spore print is rusty orange. "Each individual mushroom can weigh several pounds

Habitat:

Gymnopilus junonius is a very widely distributed mushroom which grows in dense clusters on dead hardwoods and conifers. This mushroom grows just about everywhere that decaying wood can be found

Spore printing is typically done by true mycologists and even amateur mycologists attempting to identify (correctly) their mushroom collections.

lightworkerpeace thanks for the tip.btw,how can i make a spore print? i ask you in another spotting :) what paper use?and in this case the spore are closed by a pelicule,i dont like to damage the mushrooms only for id porpouses,normaly i trie to take shoot of the under part,the gills.

If the spore print is rusty orange, compare to the genus Gymnopilus!

Thanks Emma,we tried to search more and more,fungi it's a fantastic world,i'am amazed to with the enormous diferents sp that we have been able to spott.
I saw it and it was my intention to spott the bug but in the process of taking the photos he escape :) this one as also mark of have beeing munched by some thing

looks like there are some bugs on it. i saw one recently with a caterpillar munching on the mushroom.
