Ploceus nigerrimus
Medium sized (for weavers) weaver, some 16 to 17 cm in length. All black bird with brown or reddish legs. Pale yellow eye is characteristic to distinguish it from other black weavers.
Lives and breeds in rather big and noisy colonies, and prefers open space. Here, the breeding colony seen on a lone tree, in front of a hotel in Kinshasa, very close to Congo river.
Another lucky spotting - the nesting season just started around the time I was getting ready to leave Congo, so this weaver was one of my last species seen there. An additional bonus was to be able to observe them while weaving their nests - nests looks like a compact ball, with no entrance tube.
