Orange Palm Dart Caterpillar -male

Cephrenes augiades

Description:

A 40 mm long caterpillar ( of a Dart butterfly) with a smooth, translucent greenish-blue body. A pair of yellow bean shaped sex organs can be seen through the skin in males (pic 1). The pale head had a dark "v" .

Habitat:

This caterpillar was a little lost but was placed on a palm in the garden. They feed on most palms especially Bangalow, cabbage Tree and Date palms.
