Haemorhous mexicanus
A beautiful house finch which had a red bump under its eyes. This is mycoplasmal conjunctivitis, an ocular disease most common in Haemorhous mexicanus, but can be transmitted to other species as well.
Thanks to Liam for the ID help from Purple Finch to House Finch, and the ID of the disease this bird possessed.

Thanks namitha. Sorry I missed your comment. I guess the purple finch is similar to the reverse of red cabbage, it's really purple! I saw another one of the members of the finches of New York fairly recently and it was a new one for me. It's called a Common Redpoll, and they are so interesting! The evening grosbeak does look quite similar to the common myna bird! Cool! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful spotting.Another finch from the list. I saw the house finch, purple finch [the photo was not clear, but it is red coloured, I wonder why it is called purple finch] and the evening grosbeak as well. It was nice seeing them after learning about these birds from the list you gave. The evening grosbeak looks a bit like a bird which is common here, next to the crows- the common myna bird. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Myna...
