House Finch

Haemorhous mexicanus

Description:

A beautiful house finch which had a red bump under its eyes. This is mycoplasmal conjunctivitis, an ocular disease most common in Haemorhous mexicanus, but can be transmitted to other species as well.

Thanks namitha. Sorry I missed your comment. I guess the purple finch is similar to the reverse of red cabbage, it's really purple! I saw another one of the members of the finches of New York fairly recently and it was a new one for me. It's called a Common Redpoll, and they are so interesting! The evening grosbeak does look quite similar to the common myna bird! Cool! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful spotting.Another finch from the list. I saw the house finch, purple finch [the photo was not clear, but it is red coloured, I wonder why it is called purple finch] and the evening grosbeak as well. It was nice seeing them after learning about these birds from the list you gave. The evening grosbeak looks a bit like a bird which is common here, next to the crows- the common myna bird. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Myna...
