Mocis latipes
AKA Striped Grass Looper (larva) There are five Mocis species found in North America north of Mexico. The adult forewing yellowish-brown variably shaded with darker brown. The female usually has more yellowish to reddish than male. The AM and PM lines are nearly straight; look for round subreniform spot, outlined in black, just below reniform spot; some individuals have black spot of variable size along the inner margin. The hindwing yellowish-brown with dark brown shading and two faint lines with a wingspan 33-43 mm.
Their range is southern Ontario and Quebec to Florida, west to Arizona, north to Minnesota also occurs through Central and South America in fields, grasslands, gardens and open areas. The adults fly June-October. The larvae feed on grasses, including rice and corn; also beans and turnip
Found today on my Gingersnap Rose Bush.
