Jumping Spider

Platycryptus undatus

Description:

Larger jumping spider for this area at approximately 12mm. It is a stout, low profiled jumper. Platycryptus is Greek for "broad, flat, and hidden". It is very well camouflaged with a nice blend of greys, blacks, and whites. Females have a white "mustache" while males have an orange one.

Habitat:

Found on a wooden fence that borders the parking lot of a prairie restoration area.

Notes:

This is a female and she was very curious and not afraid at all. She jumped into the hood of my lens twice and had to be fished out with a blade of grass, yet she still posed for more photos.
