Ok, that makes more sense! We do live near farm land and open wooded areas. Sorry, on my phone so the links don't work right now. :)

According to Bugguide they can be found in several habitats. "open wooded areas, meadows, farm fields, weedy waste places, prairie grasslands, and marshes - including salt marshes; adults are nocturnal and come to light"

I know this is probably a silly question 😳, but what if I don't live near a salt marsh, marshlands, or salt water? I couldn't find much on my search for habitat for this one

I believe this is a Salt Marsh Moth caterpillar. The Virginian Tiger Moth caterpillars have light heads. Yours looks like it is dark with light markings that look similar to Estigmene acrea: https://bugguide.net/node/view/833845/bg...
