Badumna insignis
up to about 20mm long. this one is a female, Black head and thorax with grey abdomen. The colour on this image may be a light quality issue
their webs are very common around structures and often mistaken for funnel web spider webs although the two webs are very different this one has more easily spotted funnels.
The webs are not sticky and rely on tangling their prey. The spiders are mostly nocturnal and sit about repairing and further tangling their webs after dark. This example lives on a web that has seen more than seven years of use. Except for the mating season these spiders are solitary. They are regular prey for huntsmen spiders, white tailed spiders and large predatory wasps not to mention broom-wielding home owners

Apologies Sarah. I used the flash to get the high definition of the web and the surroundings. I knew the colours came out a bit odd
It just looked a bit odd, but thanks for clearing that up for me :-)
I agree Sarah, I have a lot of images of these spiders and almost all of them have grey abdomen. I am pretty sure the colour is just from the flash. They are Photoshopped but just to clean up the image
The abdomen is a strange colour for black house spider, just I've never seen one look like this.
