American Goldfinch (nonbreeding)

Spinus tristis

Habitat:

parks, open fields, suburbs.

Notes:

There was a flock in these, all looking pretty drab in their nonbreeding plumage. (I think this is a female, but not sure). I was sitting under these Australian Pine looking at some American Coots in a large pond, when this finch came to a lower branch and did not seem to be too concerned with me. It sat there for a while letting me take some pics. The rest were hopping around in the tree, two came to the edge of the pond and drank some water. Maybe this one was just keeping an eye on me, I don't know if they assign a lookout like that.
