Nuttall's Woodpecker

Picoides nuttallii

Description:

Black back, wings and tail feathers with white barring. On the ventral surface, colour is white with black spots and barring. It has a black forehead with white streaks. Black and white markings on face and side of head. White chest with black spotting on sides and white down the center. Males have a red patch on the back top of the head.

Habitat:

Woodland areas.

Notes:

I spotted this one in a park with pine and eucalyptus. I also spotted them in a eucalyptus forest with Downy Woodpeckers.
