Virginia Ctenucha Moth

Description:

Medium-sized, diurnal moth. Metallic blue body marked with red as shown. Wings black with blue sheen.

Habitat:

Found this one on a hot day on the underside of a milkweed leaf next to a small artificial pond. Surrounding habitat was weedy, with grasses, cottonwood trees, scattered elm trees.

Notes:

This species supposedly does not occur in the western U.S.
