One of three White-tailed Deer herds I've been following for the past three years

While I love all White-tailed Deer I have a special fondness for fawns in spots and bucks sporting new antlers. I so look forward to seeing and spending time with both. #1-Blondie scenting, #2-JR or Junior, #3-Cupid, #4-Cupid and Daddy, #5-Leroy aka Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and #6-Blondie

alicelongmartin-Once trust is established, its there...I try not to cross their boundaries or enter into their comfort zone and they seem to respect mine as well...for the most part. Fawns, like children, are curious and playful and sometimes enter that comfort zone but a slightly raised voice or words like, "Excuse me..." usually results in them moving back or further away. Bucks in rut can be very unpredictable, so one has to respect that. Sometimes its not even the buck you have to worry about but the does and fawns running away from them. Younger bucks 1 1/2-2 1/2 years old can actually be the most aggressive, not unlike our own young males, trying to show off or move up in the ranks. They're such amazing creatures to watch, where the majority of their communication appears to be nonverbal or body language and scent. I may not be able to pick up on the scent aspect but studying their intricate body language is like learning a new language...fun but challenging at the same time. :-)
