Description:

A really odd looking migratory sea duck. Males are mostly black with a white patch on the back of head and on forehead. Eyes a very bright colored. Bills are odd shaped with red, orange, white and black. Females have dark colored cap with white patch in back of head and a faint white patches behind the eye and in front. Solid dark colored bill and brown body.

Habitat:

Found in mostly in fresh water lakes in the north arctic areas. Winters in shallow bays, estuaries and coastal waters.

Notes:

I was looking for more birds in the wintering areas in the area and as I was driving by this area I spotted something and pulled over and walked up to the waters edge to spot these birds that I never noticed before.
