Yellow Shell

Camptogramma bilineata

Description:

The colours of the wings varies from yellow to ochre brown. The wingspan is 20–25 mm. Both front and hind wings are covered with brown and white serrated crossbars. There are usually three or four distinct white crossbars, which may be bordered by a black line. The wing margin is black and wavy.

Habitat:

Occupies various habitats. I encountered this one in a vegetation spot close to a high way, rail road and industrial terrain.

Notes:

Spotted this moth during a plant field trip. Scientific name description: Camptogramma: kamptos = curved; gramma = line; the curvy lines, specifically those on the front wings. bilineata: bi = two; linea = line; the 'double' lines
