Nessus Sphinx Moth

Amphion floridensis

Description:

Chocolate brown sphinx moth, FW ahs darker bands in median area and beyond PM line. Rusty HW has a yellow spot at costa. Two thin yellow bands on abdomen are eye-catching. Host: Grape, Ampelopsis, and cayenne pepper

Habitat:

Woodland

Notes:

Diurnal. I see this moth every spring in my garden but it is very difficult to get close to so I don't have many images of it. Even this series has blurry wings because it started quivering to warm them up so he could fly away. I believe he had probably just recently eclosed.
