Brush Cuckoo

Cacomantis (Cuculus) variolosus

Description:

I have no idea what type of bird this is. I've been right through my bird book & came up with nothing. If I remember correctly it was around 20cm in length?

Habitat:

Spotted in a small pocket of forest beside permanent freshwater.

I reconciled the brown and gray by looking at photos of juveniles. The pattern on the wing which is brown seemed to match. As Liam said, white alula feather, was another identifier that I thought help make a match, along with the bill shape. :)

Looks fine for Brush Cuckoo to me, even down to the white alula feather.

Sorry, I meant more brown than grey.

Thank you gatorfellows. I did look at the Brush Cuckoo, it looked quite similar, just with the wrong colours? This bird seems to be more grey than brown. I'm just not sure. Thanks for your help :)

Did you investigate at Brush Cuckoo; Cacomantis variolosus ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brush_Cucko... This is just a guess, because I cannot see the under-tail marks very well. I did find photos that look very similar; http://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Brush-Cuck...
