Camellia japonica
One of the reasons I always enjoy coming to the southern part of the US is because of a beautiful flowering shrub called the camelia which always seem to be in bloom about January. Camellias are evergreen shrubs with dark, glossy leaves. They produce the most beautiful flowers and may be white, pink, red, or streaked, and blooms can be single or double. They were brought over from China or Japan.
These amazing camelia flowering shrubs were spotted in a camelia garden on Jefferson Island in Louisiana. Lovely!
