Sooty Fox Sparrow

Passerella (iliaca) unalaschcensis

Description:

Colors can range from a rusty color, gray to heavy brown. This Fox sparrow is a "sooty" variety given for it's dirty appearance. Almost solid brown head, back and wings with streaking on chest and belly. Like the Song sparrow there is spot on the chest.

Habitat:

This bird loves to hide in brambles, tall plants and marsh plants.

Notes:

I hear it more then see it. It loves to hide in brambles or tangle of plants like blackberries and marsh grass. Then once in awhile it shows itself and then dives back into hiding again.
