Redhead Duck (female)

Aythya americana

Description:

Was only able to find a female on the lake. Like the Tufted duck hiding in the Scaup there could be a male Redhead with the Canvasback. Females can range from medium brown to a reddish or cinnamon color. They blend in well with the female Scaup except for their smaller size and the blue rind around near the end of the bill. They may still have a pale white halo around the bill but no other markings on the bird. Unlike the males yellow eyes the females have dark eyes.

Habitat:

These are still diving ducks so you will find them in shallow lakes and ponds.
