Red-Tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

The red-tailed hawk is the most common hawk in North America. This particular hawk has the typical dark patagial marks and belly band but has a brown banded tail and light yellow eyes, which is indicative juvenile red-tailed hawk.

Habitat:

Suburban Neighborhood

Notes:

This is a hatch year bird that I have been watching for the last several months. I wonder if his parents are the mated pair that nest in the large field he hunts near. I named him/her Choco because of his beautiful chocolate colored belly band. He is a typical "goofy baby" RTH. When I took these pictures he flew away but then came right back to the same tree, as if he didn't know where else to go!
